The Ivy Restaurant
Richmond London
Richmond London
I have been to The Ivy in Covent Gardens, and was really very pleased with everything, of course the friends were so different, pleasing, kind, and very beautiful to say the least. My friend Gill was the best company, the posh side, and the caring side. It was a wonderful experience. We tried the food at it's best in fine dining, with Champagne to cheer the world, and life. This was the ideal place to be, and the company of good friends made the day complete.
Now the Ivy in Richmond is completely different. It wasn't select at all, the friend I came with was different to the normal friends in my life. Drinks at the bar before the meal, to the conversation being about placing her small house on the market, she needs a ballroom. And so to the play of the day, everybody was talking about houses, and keeping hold of them. "Two house Champagne's" as there wasn't much choice. So then to look at the seating, and to the windows.
I was disappointed at no view of the river. It would have been fantastic to have a view. The seating arrangement were a bit tight to say the least. The ambiance wasn't really there. And my friend wanted to sit with a couple rather than sitting in a spot closer to the bar. Madness to say the least, we had joined an abusive man. He liked me but not my friend. The food I found to be very well presented, and tasty, fine dining. But my friend said hers was cold.
Perhaps too many clients in the restaurant at one time. Our dessert we had to sit at the bar to eat, as the abusive man became a nightmare. Not a comfortable place to be. I will try this restaurant again at some point, and perhaps with different friends who enjoy life, and do not seek attention.

Milsoms Hotel
& Restaurant
& Restaurant
Milsoms Hotel, and Restaurant; Now this was a top notch restaurant, and that was what I was expecting, but it had changed. Claire had journeyed from London, and I had journeyed from France, a place to meet for a friends funeral. We both walked in, and realised that it wasn't the same as before. I loved this restaurant, but I have now found better. It was fitting to order Champagne, so we did just that. A celebration of life, and a sadness of death. A plateful of Spanish meats was served, not with pleasure. The food was delightful, and expensive, but something was missing.... You Served ... Not the same as it used to be when I used to go with Gillian for lunch. August 2016
The Lake District; Burnside Hotel, and Restaurant; Bowness on Windermere was the place I had the pleasure of staying. Close to Lake Windermere, the views from the window were of Lake Winderemere. The Restaurant for breakfast was interesting, I was the youngest guest, the time had come to mix with the pensioners.
Dinner was served to a fine art, I enjoyed every part of it, fine dining at it's best. Yes this Hotel Restaurant knew how to look after their guests, I was pleased to be looked after. Happy with life.... You Serve ... I was certainly happy with my two nights stay tasting the food that was served in the Hotel Restaurant.

Littlehampton Rustlington Manor Hotel
A stop for lunch was needed, from the outside it looked like a house but once inside the hotel, restaurant opened up. I decided to walk in, but to my disgust the young waitress looked at me as though I didn't belong in this restaurant. Slightly rude, to the point of not willing to serve me. perhaps I didn't fit in. They all were slightly older. But then I had walked from my Hotel, and I didn't have the posh car that the other people here had, and she looked slightly down on me.
But again they were prompted to understanding who I was, again we had the play, a star in my own right, do all famous people have to put up with what I do. Her attentiveness improved. The food wasn't fine dining but was definitely to the standard that I enjoy. I would expect a different welcome the next time I walked in this restaurant for lunch.... At first not good, but being prompted they woke up.

The Old England Hotel Restaurant.
As soon as I walked into this restaurant I was looked after, the table by the window was what I asked for, and what I was given, the setting sun was now creeping behind the mountain, I was watching the swans, and the ducks while they were finding their resting places for the night, I was going to enjoy my evening meal for sure, it's my Birthday why wouldn't I enjoy. Salmon for a starter, Chicken in Madeira Sauce for my main, very tasty indeed. And of course my Chocolate Brownie, with Ice Cream came out of the kitchen with a candle that was lit, and a Happy Birthday from the staff.
The head of House was a woman who knew how to work the restaurant, of course foreign with a willing too please as they do for certain, with all the staff nothing was too much. A glass of Prosecco for my Birthday given with the willing attention. I enjoyed my meal, and it all came together, making my Birthday a special one indeed.... Thank you for my Special Birthday.

Langdale Hotel & Spa.
The Restaurant was a cocktail, and perhaps dinner, who knows we were on a break. Fully booked we were told, really the tables were empty. But then we were shown to a small table near the gangway. It was cosy enough, but we would have been in the way of most of the diners as they walked past us.
Then a table appeared, and we sat to have dinner, a bottle of Sauviguon Blanc, we were set. Cottage Pie done the trick for me, it was tasty enough, I enjoyed all of it. Gravy would have been a good idea, as it was a bit dry. My friend wasn't too sure whether she enjoyed or not, too tacky she remarked. The Carrot Cake wasn't the normal Carrot Cake, and I didn't enjoy it so much, it had the spices, but there was something missing. Please, it needs to be moist, and with that delicious creamy topping.... It was a fun time, I enjoyed for certain... But sort the Carrot Cake out.

This restaurant was a treat for my granddaughter. I did find the service very slow in this restaurant, wondering whether there were enough staff to serve, it was Friday night after all. The main was reasonable, and we bothe enjoyed, with a glass of Prosecco, isn't it wonderful to have granddaughters that are of an age that they too can have a glass of 'Bubbly' Our Pudding came with all the trimmings, Brownie, and a delight for sure. I would wish for a better service next time, and may go in for lunch one day. My Pleasure... You Served... Service was too slow, but otherwise I enjoyed.
Gusto Restaurant & Bar 2018
Lytham St Annes
Lytham St Annes
A place to stop, a place to eat, is it the time for a treat. I had walked along the seafront to get to Lytham, not realising the length of the walk. Spending my time at the Ball group, which may I add was a disruptive weekend. I had popped in for peace, and quiet, for a change to get away from the maddening crowd. I began to feel a little bit surprised as I had been noticed. A Prosecco, a meal, and a bus ride back to a hotel that had breached my confidential privacy. I enjoyed my time at Gusto's, the food was certainly well worth the trek from the hotel. The views along the sea front are breath-taking, and beautiful.... Thank you, I will return one day.
The Talbooth 2018
Dedham
Dedham
The Tolbooth ... Dedham ... A Ball, a dance, and some finery, it was time for Cinders to finally go to the ball, dressed as a queen in Crimson, with a Tiara in Silver. I had tried to get to the GOSH ball the year before but life wouldn't allow me to go. This was special, Friends, and new friends were the call of the night. I delighted on the food of the night, one thing about the Tolbooth is that it is upmarket where food is concerned, the setting is beautiful, and they are very attentive.
But some people tried to spoil my night, the singer who felt her mind games were allowed. Was it her police person friend that gave her the ok to do so. Did he feel that she couldn't be charged for harassment, trying to intimidate, stalking. I would have thought that they all were an offence. It worries me that she could sing a few notes, but couldn't speak the truth. But it didn't deter me from dancing. Having been before to the Tolbooth for a Ball, I thoroughly enjoyed. The Range Rover brought me to the Ball from Milsoms Hotel, and the Range Rover would take me back.... You Served ... Very well indeed, even though I had to put up with rubbish. The last time I was at the Tolbooth was with my beautiful friend Gillian who passed in 2016. I enjoyed the night with her, and Nigel's family.
The Milsoms Hotel was for a light lunch of Salmon, and Prosecco. The evening staff when we came back from the Ball were again attentive, toast was made for us, and the new friends I was enjoying, Frinton-on-Sea, a childhood memory. My room was beautiful, relaxing, and smart. Breakfast was light, but substantial.... You Served ... Attentive ... ( Look at Hotels )

Harry's Bar ... Billericay Essex 2018
Zizzi Restaurant ... O2 London 2018
Zizzi Restaurant ... O2 London 2018
Finding a restaurant of our choice in Billericay. We chose Harry's Bar. A bottle of wine, the service was attentive. A meeting with a good friend, and a time to enjoy. The order of a really fine meaty burger, and the trimmings. Very nice, and the only thing that was left were the onions, not for me. We sat outside to meet, and eat. Then moved inside for a few drinks more, and the dessert. Salted Caramel Cheese Cake. Fine, tasty, and the bottle of Prosecco. Our time done. Off to the Railway Pub for a game of darts, and a Bulls eye for me. I need to buy a t-shirt... All Eyes On ME !!! As they certainly were.... Served with a smile... Thank you.
The O2 Arena was my next journey ... Meeting my Justin, and Debbie. Zizzi was the restaurant, stepping inside; it was empty, a seat of our choice. And so to begin, Italian, we always find the Italian. All of us had different starters, and mains. Mine Calamares fritos, and main Sea Bass with herby potatoes, and green beans. Justin had Prawns, main Chicken with herby potatoes, and green beans. Debbie, Formaggio, with Bread, main a dish with herbie, bread Italian style. All was certainly tasty, a glass of Prosecco, and a laugh with family. My family time was made special by the service from the attentive waiters, and waitresses at the restaurant... You Served ... Thank you for being so attentive. I enjoyed.
We then went onto All Bar One, a bar at the main doors of the O2 Arena. Prosecco, and water, with putting our life's into prospective. And the return journey home.

The Quarter Lounge ... Carlisle 2018
Staveley Antiques ... Cafe' Eclec ... Lunch; Somewhere warm, and somewhere special. Out too lunch in Staveley, The Lake District. Coffee as a starter. Winter has it's beauty, but freezing. I am a warm person so the sun is needed for sure, not much of that today.
So it was to be a warm veggie meal, a veggie dal, I don't mind trying veggie dishes, but I still like my fish, and meat for sure. The dish was warm, so no need for thermal underwear, I was warm, it was certainly very tasty, and the choices were evidently thought of well. This is an Antique place with the cafe' at the back, worth a a look, but watch that you do not knock anything over.
My dessert was an Almond creme cake, very French, Italian, or even Spanish. Earl Grey tea, and a fire to watch, and keep warm by. The play, the play forever today. But then envy, insecurity, jealousy rules the day. How do I put up with it, I smile, and think what idiots. Everywhere I go, this is fame. Please visit this place it's worth a look.... Thank you, very tasty indeed.

The Quarter Lounge ... This was the lunch on the Saturday, a family time. Coming together. Just wondering why there was a pink bike outside, there was a restaurant with a blue bike down the road. The food was simple enough, as a fine diner I had to think carefully as it wasn't what I would have chosen, but the gin & tonic were something to enjoy. They forgot to serve the Profiteroles with candles, they became free. We had a good day in Carlisle, the rugby was next. A man's bar to be sure. 2018

Halston Hotel
Carlisle Cumbria
Afternoon tea with a twist, Penny Blue Restaurant which is part of The Halston Hotel. Carlisle, a birthday, and my daughter. A gift to her for being so special. The set up was better than last time I had visited the hotel. London was in the throws of the wedding of the year. Harry and Megan. So the restaurant was quiet, and far more personal.
We were seated at a table with plenty of room for Arthur, and his friend Pickle to enjoy afternoon tea too.
Plenty to eat, with Salmon Brioche, Ham Hock Sandwiches, Coronation Chicken. Tea, Champagne, Prosecco. The dessert was a delight, Macaroon, Scones with Jam, and Cream, Chocolate Brownie. The taste of pure luxury, and being spoilt was part of the plan. We were shown how the Hotel/Restaurant had begun expanding into something better, and upmarket. The function room was amble for weddings etc. Halston Hotel, Penny Blue Restaurant sits in the heart of Carlisle, and is most certainly worth a visit. Make sure you book as it does become very busy.
We were looked after very well. I have now stayed in the hotel, and had a meal in the restaurant, and I will mostcertainly return. Thank you for being so pleasant, efficient, and professional.

Enjoy yourself whatever you do.

Villagio Italian Restaurant ... Chatham Kent ... A visit for dinner, a time to eat. A welcome for sure, and the apparent notice of being looked after. Gin & Tonic, an aperitif, and then to starters. We shared as I wanted to try everything. Meatballs, Halloumi Cheese, all especially good. Then to the Main, mine was the Lasagna, tasty for sure. A Cheesecake for Dessert, and I watched as the insanity began. I did enjoy my time here, and will return, the food is so tasty not to return. Our Pleasure was in the food, and the service. Thank you...
The Ship Inn ... Upnor Kent ... A Roast, I always wait until I visit family for a Sunday roast, as my years of cooking for the many are over. We ventured here for the Sunday late afternoon. The waitress collecting our drinks order was attentive, a slight London accent, and a smile. Sunday Roast, with the trimmings, and the Dessert was Chocolate Cake, and Ice-cream. The views are of the River Medway, and when the sun shines it's a beautiful place to sit, and watch the world go by. Our Pleasure was made apparent with the service, and the food.
Breakfast, and Shopping brought us to Blue-Water Shopping Centre ... Ed's Easy Diner we would be having breakfast with a twist. Full English for Justin, and Debbie, mine was Pancakes with Blueberries, bacon, and honey. A breakfast that I really do not normally have. Tasty, really tasty. The service was really attentive, and fast. An Earl Grey Tea made the breakfast delightful. We continued to shop, a few hold ups but nothing major. All in a moment of a day. Enjoying ... Our Pleasure was fulfilled in the service, and the food.
Carlisle Cumbria ... The Castle ... The shopping Centre 2019
Chocolat Hotel ... Carlisle Cumbria ... Yummy, this Chocolate has far more Cocoa than the normal Chocolate.Treats for my daughter, and for myself. New to the town, the shop we found ourselves looking around, gifts, treats galore there is a Cafe', Restaurant to the back of the shop, but we didn't venture there this time, perhaps next time we will. Champagne Chocolates are always a must for me, and a bar of sheer Cocoa to add to the bag. Now Cocoa is extremely good for you. As well as being yummy. You will find this shop delicious, we most certainly did, Christmas present for everyone here.
Restaurant Valerie ... Carlisle Cumbria ... A restaurant, plus a tearoom. It was a stop after Hotel Chocolat, and the quick shop in Primark, my love of the the fleeces. Well Autumn is here, and it will be soon be Winter. I gathered all that I needed to keep me warm, I hate being cold. The Primark bag was on show this time, normally I would bring another upmarket bag to cover up. But today I was happy with showing people that I had bought my fleeces in Primark.
Onto Restaurant Valerie, and breakfast, a pot of Earl Grey Tea for me, and my daughter a pot of English Tea. Cheesy roll that my daughter tucked into, and I had the pancakes with Mascarpone Cheese, and Strawberries. Life was good, picking up a bag of Macaroons, and a cupcake. All in a morning of eating for us. Attentive, and busy. Nothing was too much, the service was good... Our Pleasure you served well indeed. Thank you ...

Chesters by the River ... Skelwith Bridge Cumbria 2019
Herdwicks Cafe & Bistro ... Coniston Cumbria 2019
On a day, of a visit around the lakes. Both my neighbours Bob, and Sue, myself, and two small bears began our journey from Kendal to Blackwell, The Arts & Crafts House, and what a beautiful place it is. Coffee, and a Florentine Biscuit was the call of the morning break. I sat with a view out of the window, the view was of Lake Windermere, it was a shame that it rained, but it didn't spoil the photo shoot Arthur, and Tom had. Or the view that I enjoyed. It's a house that welcomes guests to its home. You can walk around with a view of enjoying the house, and the exhibition allows you to venture into every nook, and cranny.
There is a tea-room with enough delicious cakes, and biscuits for you to feast on, and of course there is a gift shop.
The free parking is always good, as being a National Trust Area it has become slightly greedy in it's parking fees.
I would recommend a visit, for the view also. Breath-taking is enough words to describe the pleasure of the view.
Arthur, and Tom enjoyed the photo shoot. Look into Arthur's Adventure's page for his story.

From Blackwell we continued our journey through Bowness on Windermere, and onto Ambleside, the views are always good even in the rain. Making our way past The Lang-dales, and towards Skelwith Bridge. Here we stopped for food and of course a small bottle of Prosecco. A wheat bread pizza, with Halloumi Cheese. Set very close to the river.
The food was somewhat delicate, and tasty. I will try most foods just to enjoy the taste, indifferent, vegetarian or not. Leaving here to walk along the river to the opening of the land to the mountains. A photo pose for Arthur , and his friend Tom. Then moving onto Coniston, and the big mountain named "The Old Man of Coniston." This was a view of the world, here my camera snapped and snapped. It continued to show the beauty of The Lake District. Making our way down to Coniston for Tea, and Cake. Making the walk through the town, right to the end of the town.
The Herdwick Cafe' & Bistro. The area was something of beauty. A new building that let the light in on the sheep.
I had found some new sheep along the journey of Coniston.

The Harbour Hotel & Spa ... The Jetty ... Harbar Roof Top
Southampton 2018
Southampton 2018
Taking time for dinner in the Jetty Restaurant was somewhat interesting. The food was what I expected in such a lovely Hotel. Wine to fill it's purpose. And an ambiance of knowing. Cheese Souffle for the starter. A glass of red accompanied with the water, it saved the self from a headache. Both red wine, and water are good for the heart.
|
The main course of Fish was for me a treasure. Fish is wonderful if cooked to the taste, and sensitivity. The dessert or pudding came with a German Austrian feel. All in all, The Jetty is what it should be. Fine foods, with marvellous wines, and the service was attentive. The view comes at a cost, and the cost is well accepted.
Breakfast with a view again, but this time the roof of the Harbour Hotel, self service, but with the added attentiveness of making sure I was happy. Porridge, fruit, and Croissants, yes with Chocolate. Sometimes you actually have to enjoy life to the full, as much as eating a healthy diet. I also enjoyed lunch here before making my way to the Cruise Ship Azura. Salmon in a hot style, Prosecco to lift the spirit, it was a relaxing stay, 24 hours in a day, and a lovely way to spend that time.
Homegrown Coffee & Kitchen Windermere Cumbria 2019
The Dutch Uncle ... Carlisle Cumbria 2018
Christmas shopping done, time to chill. Regardless of working as a critic with restaurants. Having already been to the Shabby Scholar, a restaurant in partnership with the Dutch Uncle. It was now time to taste not only the Cocktails here but also the food. We had tired to get in this restaurant before, but not made too welcome. This time the welcome was there.
Pressies done, drinks to come. A Porn Star to begin with, well why not. I have always wanted to try this cocktail with a Prosecco shot, and today I am. Egg, Chickpeas, cooked in a spicy base, Cheesy Chips with Cumberland Sausage, very tasty indeed. Violet Gin & Tonic, and a Sweet Pea Cocktail. A free Shot to finish. We enjoyed, and I had an article
to write. Lady was the word of the day. Well I know I am a Lady, my daughter remarked that she had never heard the word spoken so much. "But we are Ladies, and it's Ladies Day." ... Watching. Thank you.

Sizergh Barn Farm Shop & Cafe' ... Sizergh ... South Lakes ... Lake District 2018
We all love a good farm shop, and this is one of them. Coffee first before a look around the goodies. Warm, and friendly. Light, and calming. This was a joy to walk around. I found a Christmas ornament, a special gift.
Interesting gift choices, and a whole range of beautiful food. Definitely a must to visit for the Christmas time, or any time of the year. |
You can watch the cows being milked, the countryside is a picture of beauty, with breathtaking views, I loved the ambiance, and the social side of this journey into the unknown. Adventures come in all shapes, and forms. And this was a day of adventures. Little journey's create bigger, interesting journey's in life. A change in direction, is a change for the better.
Watch the road coming in as the forever roadworks were apparent, where would life be without the roadworks. This is part of the Lake District journey to the beauty of the views. In the views I was looking for peace, but found it hard to find. |
Kirby Lonsdale ... South Lakes ... Lake District 2019
Look at this amazing view, it does make you wonder how in life the most cheapest form of pleasure is overlooked by excitement in different directions. You have to just soak up this beautiful energy, and then take a deep breath, the air has an enriching quality. We found the Devil's Bridge. Need I say more. You have to believe in the Devil to see what it represents, and the Devil is not a belief of mine, so there was no significance at all, just a bridge with a beautiful view.
Number Forty Four, A new found Cafe', Patisserie, Brasserie, this is a place with ambiance, people come in for coffee, cake or chips, lunch with Prosecco of course, the shared bowl of chips, with the unusual bap. Not normally a fan of batter, or breadcrumbs, but this was different. Tummy full, and onto the next place. Yes not hard to guess is it. Chocolat, no not Hotel Chocolat, but certainly a fine selection of the most divine tastes. Different to the norm, this place is well worth a visit, the salted caramel, and many different tastes for you to try, pop along and enjoy.
Hansen's Ice-Cream Parlour 2019
I had found myself an Ice-Cream Parlour just outside of Kendal. Tucked out of the way of the noisy traffic, and with the views of the country-side. This is still very much the Winter time, and yes I know Ice-Cream is a Summer thing. But I wanted to see what it had to offer. I will return when the weather is better.
So to look from the outside it's a house that has been converted to an Ice-Cream Parlour & Cafe/Restaurant. You walk into a smiley atmosphere, and yes the ambiance is a welcoming one. I sat in the area of the children, energy so much better for me. Looking artistically at what there was on offer. "Yummy" My thoughts were saying, and Yummy it was. A glass dessert dish of ice-cream to start with, the starter so to speak.
Followed by my breakfast, yes it pays to be different in a sheepy world. There in front of me was the most delicious Chocolate Cake, and a pot of Earl Grey Tea. I love both Tea and Coffee, but I am a little fussy of my choices, as a matter of fact I am a snob with my choices. It's part of the class.
Divinely created; the chocolate cake was certainly that, it was succulent, moist, and just tasty what more can I say. The tea came with a certain class in itself, who would think it. This place was full, it must be the place to go on a day of rain. The young people who served were there to help, and were very friendly...

Greenhouse Restaurant ... Kendal 2019
Greenhouse Restaurant: The hotel and the surrounding gardens are well presented. A welcome for sure, a seat where I wanted to sit, always a bonus. Very attentive I couldn't ask for more, as yes when you are in the trade of serving it's a plus to make sure the diner is happy. My main dish was Halibut with Truffles. The dish was tasty enough, the noodles I left as really not a great noodle eater.
But then the choice of a dessert. I looked and found something quite interesting: A Creme Brulee' made with Duck Egg, now this I have never tried before. It was tasty but very creamy, it didn't really suit me. Apparently a Canadian dessert, it is really an acquired taste, perhaps a smaller dish would be better suited as it is such a rich dish with a cream. Chocolate Cake I always have, but it is good to taste different desserts. Full of couples, single me watching to
see who is happy and who was just there because !

Brew Brothers
Kendal Coffee 2019
Kendal Coffee 2019
A Coffee; The nearest place to my long jog/walk was the Brew Brothers. Now not such a welcome as the night before, more of an order of the day. When does a table become a table, when does it become a shared table, when does it on the orders of a waitress does it become a table that I must not sit at. The family were quite happy for me to sit at this table, but on the order of a waitress I wasn't allowed to sit there as it wasn't a shared table. The last time I was sitting at this table I allowed the couple to sit with me.
I sat at another table then to top it all she then began to play the mind games that everybody seems to want to play. The Gold ring game, the viruses. She drinks water, yes apparently most of us do me included. And the most sensible of us like a glass of Champagne, Prosecco, and maybe a Gin & Tonic, or a decent glass of red wine. Give up people the heavens are watching you.

Yew Tree Barn;
Restaurant ... Shop 2019
Restaurant ... Shop 2019
The Yew Tree Cartmel; What a wonderful place to stop for a coffee and to search for the unexpected pressie. The top end of the market in fine furniture and things that you cannot find elsewhere appearing in front of you. I had a delightful cup of coffee and a brownie that I shared. Neighbours and we travel The Lake District. Not many moreplaces to see now. A place to visit all year round. Welcoming staff, and good food.
Cartmel ... Cartmel Races 2019
Cartmel Cheeses
Holker Hall & Gardens
Cartmel Cheeses
Holker Hall & Gardens
A stroll around a delightful village with all the finery of food. There is a restaurant here I must try before I finish the story of Cartmel. A great deal of gift places, old and fine antique places. The food and wine shops to enjoy. I will keep you updated as I visit this beautiful restaurant in the near future.
|
Holker Hall & Gardens ... I have the pleasure as a restaurant critic to enjoy the first class food and what I would call the normal food cooked to a sublime taste. The drive along the long driveway towards Holker Hall was beautiful and I feel as the Summer months come to the Gardens it will be even more beautiful. The food very tasty, the shop beside the restaurant also gives you fine foods for fine people.
Sampan Oriental Restaurant 2019
Crown Plaza Hotel
Crown Plaza Hotel
The best restaurant on the complex of the airport. Each time I stop over this is the restaurant I head for. The food is tasty, carefully done and divinely presented. I have found the staff very pleasing to my requests and no questions asks to my no rice or noodles. Wonderful starters, tasty mains and I am a dessert lady, every wish on the dessert menu is answered.
Old Beetham 2019
Post Office Tea Rooms
Post Office Tea Rooms
Door opened into a beautiful quaint little tearoom. Delicious ... Ginger cake and Coffee Crema what more does a lady want. Well just a view of the countryside and of course the church which was being used with the acoustics of the orchestral sounds. Not much parking here so look around you will find a spot near a car park. Local neighbours have claimed the road as their's. Are we tempted to be rebels. Perhaps not today. Finding a car park near the church.
Heysham .. Lancashire 2019
The sea in which is near but also very far from the shores of Lancaster. Morecambe is a stone's throw away that is in need of some investment and a good transformation to being a fantastic town. Not far from the shores of the Lake District which is a beauty in itself. And of course a short journey to the borders of Scotland. All in a day of the journey of the soul.
I found an attentive situation, beautiful food that suited my soul. And an ice-cream cafe' that reminded me of times gone by. A fifties look was a way to bring me in. Chocolate ice-cream and a pot of tea. Very welcoming and a journey well worth exploring. Eric Morecambe in a statue at the promenade of Morecambe.
A quick look at Carnforth station and the history of a film "Brief Encounter" what a shame the station was shut. And on a Saturday. I had my time of running around the station just to check the journey of the film. Slightly disappointed but another day may bring some fruition.

The Royal ... Heysham. Lancashire Morecombe Bay
Now this is a restaurant to visit. Classy but not too overpowering, interesting with a mixture of the old pub come restaurant. With a smartness of the attentive young staff. Neighbours on a journey through Morecambe and onto Heysham. Definitely a place to visit. You can dine to your hearts content. Take whatever beverage you enjoy. There is a large selection of gins if that takes your fancy.

Here we are a place that takes us back in time. Frank Sinatra played in the back ground. "I did it my way" yes I most certainly did, without a doubt I conquered my own fears and transformed my life into what it is now. For the love of the journey gave us a corner of Curiosity. Yes this is a cafe' that has it all. Ice-cream on order with a pot of tea. Lunch is on the menu or a slice of cake. I was totally spoilt. How I love my journey, my own path of enlightenment has enlightened my soul to the complications of others. Visiting Heysham gave me an insight to what the synchronicity's of life can give you.
Jamie's Italian Caffe Concerto 2018
Pizza Express Stratford Westfield
Pizza Express Stratford Westfield
This was the second time for me to have lunch at Jamie's Italian. The last time I gave a brilliant review, as the food is really tasty. Worth a visit. All that is missing is some good old Crooners music. Again the music was missing. Sumaia who had travelled from Spain to see me. Lunch was served, a salad, crab pasta, Prosecco, and water. Served with a smile. It wasn't as pro-active as last time. But the food was delicious. My Pleasure ... You Serve .. was kind for sure.
Moving to the next part of the day which was opposite Caffe Concerto. Both of us took the slow two minute walk to this caffe, not too far. Ordering Champagne, fruit salad, and a chocolate cake. Home made, no I don't feel so, but it was delicious whoever made it, I was in the mood for creamy chocolate cake with a glass of Champagne which made the chocolate taste even better.
The mixture of both food, and drink I enjoyed, the service was attentive, but the waitress kept chasing the waiter. Leaving with a fresh view on life, we decided to shop.
The next day was a day for Sarah, and Max. A meeting that had been emotional to say the least. Shopping for Max was the order of the day. So we did just that.
Finding ourselves looking for lunch, and it was what Max wanted of course, Pizza it was, Max had Pizza, I had Canneloni, and Sarah had Risotto. It was served with a smile, and Prosecco too. Ice-cream for Max. And the music was what the youngsters wanted to hear. Louder it got, until it was turned down. To then thank goodness it was changed to the Crooners, at last an Italian that knows how to play music. I did enjoy.

The Mallard Tea Rooms 2018
Just in time for a coffee, slipped into a small cafe' The Mallard Tea Rooms. Coffee was just what I needed. This was Cartmel a village of fine dining, cheeses, shops and friendly people. The Tea rooms were clean, friendly and comfortable.
Cakes to be tasted, crumpets, t-cakes, hot toast and much more. This was a gentle visit to my visit to Cartmel. Arthur and Antony were on their own journey of refinement. All in the day of checking the food and the quality of the friendliness in Cartmel. Take a look at the wonderful cakes and enjoy. |
Levens ... Tea Room and Cafe' 2019
"If I must" The words were said with a view of the cakes in front of me. I am a willing participant in cake tasting. So Chocolate Millionaires Cake to be shared. Not so greedy. The cakes were labelled. Brilliant I knew what I was asking for. All there for my delight. Visiting Levens Hall, the tearoom is something to try on a journey through the Lake District. Enjoy; I most certainly did. Another day and another cake, liquorice and Lemon, a tasty cake with a marzipan taste.
Levens Hall Gift Shop 2019
Now here's a thing, walk around at your leisure and enjoy the smells, the aroma of the soaps. I had to buy a soap just for me. Scented soaps just to see if that wonderful smell lasts before the soap disappears, experimental one needs to know these things. By the time you have walked around the gift shop and tried to peek into the garden it's time to move on.
The Albion 2019
Arnside Lancashire
Arnside Lancashire
So to yet another journey across the Lake District. The journey of the neighbours, we had stepped into Levens Hall Tea and Cafe' for coffee and a shared cake now to walking the paths of Arnside after travelling through Silverdale. To my surprise I had been shown a "Spite Wall" There is a picture amongst the many. The Northerners build walls and the Southerners plant trees. My, my what a world we are in.
The sea stretched as far as it could and only the children dance within the streams of the seas. Quick sands are here and one must respect the sea and it's dangers. Looking over the bay Grange over Sands could be seen. Now to finding a place to have lunch and then to watch as the waters rush by, a filling up of the bay in a quick motion, no time to think. A ten minute warning was sounded as I sat and had my lunch at The Albion. And then a rush of a wave came into focus, not enough to surf on by enough to see how people have lost their life's in Morecambe Bay.

So to lunch which was very tasty indeed. I had chosen slightly on the vegetarian side even though I eat in a sensible
manner and will eat meat if it is a good dish. I prefer organic food than to food that is on a conveyor belt system. I eat what I want regardless of the controlling ways of others. Some Northerners are friendly some not so, but then I can say the same for Southerners. Lunch for today was finished and to look at the rising water then to an ice-cream. Yes Arthur and Antony came along for the journey.
Italian ice-cream is the best and sometimes you have to make some kind of comparison to see what others have achieved on their journey of ice-cream making. Lot's of different flavours. Another day, another flavour.
The day done and slowly moving forward to understand what people like in the corner of yet another world of simplicity in itself. Another day in the journey of the Lake District.

Meditation Temple Ulverston Lake District 2019
If you are looking for a peaceful journey through to having a cup of coffee/tea with a piece of cake. Then a walk through the woods to the beach then look no further than the Meditation Temple on the outskirts of Ulverston in the Lake District. Peaceful, sublimely so. The sounds of dogs barking and children chatting is about as much noise as you are going to get. Beautiful place to visit any time of the year. Divinely connected, divinely appreciative of the journey. Peaceful; if a little following.
The Bay Horse 2019
Ulverston Lake District
Ulverston Lake District
Beautiful place to have lunch. I did have Salmon, Mascarpone Cheese with Granary Bread. But by the time I had realised that I should take a photo the food had been eaten. Sorry folks but it was delicious. The views to the Bay gave the ambience of peace and quiet. A day for adventuring through a town that was unsure of it's understanding of life.
Gilliams Tea-rooms 2019
Ulverston Lake District
Ulverston Lake District
"Who's for tea then" Me, Me and Me. After walking around the town it was a quick step into the tearooms. Gilliams has all sorts of surprises.
Ground coffee, teas and other goodies at your disposal. I love being given a proper pot of tea. All three of us had a pot each. Isn't that sublime. One could not have asked for more. Take a look inside you won't be disappointed. |
Chesters by the River Skelwith Bridge 2018
Ambelside Lake District.
Ambelside Lake District.
This is a place that is always busy. Today a Pizza, Sweet Potato loaded with some tasty dressings. Then to watch as the cakes kept disappearing before my eyes. Quick grab a Lemon Meringue, a take home piece to enjoy. As you do. Always the best and the best is yet to come. Standing on the bridge watching as the waters raged by with a meaning of reaching it's place in the journey to the sea. Life can be so interesting when searching for a place that gives you everything.
And then there is Grassmere, a journey to the centre of the Lake District. I was expecting beautiful views and I got them. Parking a little bit of a problem and that means tourism. A very busy place, all kinds of nationalities and they were all looking for the same thing. A tea-room, the ginger shop, Wordsworth who apparently lived here and died here, but was born in Cockermouth.
So we had created a journey of the tourists. Even though it is busy and there are little or no pathways so that you are stepping in the road. You must visit, it does have a quaintness about it and in that you need to see the sloping hills that touch the skies. We found the restaurant that was on the list and coffee with chocolate cake was on order. Busy, busy. The wonderment of life and the journey of others. Baldry's is a place to visit, breakfast, cake, coffee and tea.
And next to visit the Ginger shop. Yes it's Gingerbread and it is different to what I was brought up with. Having a childhood of living with the taste of the Christmas Gingerbread house. This isn't the taste of that. It has it's own taste and some will like and some will not. It is a hot ginger and you will have to have an acquired taste to enjoy. I enjoyed; but prefer my childhood tastes.

2 Sisters ... Kendal... 2019
Plumgarth Kendal
2 for the price of 1
Plumgarth Kendal
2 for the price of 1
Well; two for the price of one. There are two of these cafe' in Kendal and both are well presented. It's a matter of choice and a matter of what cake you prefer. We are on a sharing cake time. Where would we be without the cakes of life. Or life without a cake. Clocks on the wall, paintings to view. A spice cake with a definite punch.
Mortal Man ... Troutbeck ... Windermere 2019
What's the difference between a Mortal Man ( or Woman ) and one In Spirit. Well the Mortal Man ( or Woman ) comes with the games, the Spirit person I can deal with. Saying this I found the view from this place absolutely beautiful even though the mist restricted the view of the lake, I had the countryside which was beautiful. Up in the clouds. We were in a place of peace until the dreaded noisy women turned up and then the play game started. The wine had a punch and the salmon kept me sane. So everything there except for the noise and play.
Arthur and Tom decided to climb the bean palm. To the top of the world and back to the bottom. Excited as they reached the top and could see out of the window.
They could see the trampoline but it was raining and they had forgotten their boots. Maybe next time the sun will shine and the peace will remain peaceful. |
Beetham Nursery ... Milnthorpe 2019
Welcome to Santa's Grotto; But Santa wasn't there. A walk around the decorations with a view of the winter wonderland. Just a little gift for the new baby and then moving towards the cafe. Walking around the plants. Now this would really be a wonderful place in the Spring Summer as the energy of the plants would give the healing needed.
We sat beside a couple of girls and yes I mean girls who again needed to play. I asked for brown bread and I got white. It went back this time and I will not put up with inefficiency. If someone tells you to do different to what I have asked you then do as I ask you. Is it me or are these humans so thick that they do not understand plain English, or are they so dense and feel the need to follow someone who is as dense as they are.
Beetham Rabbit or Welsh Rabbit with a twist. Vegetarian food; there is not so much choice and I have allergies in which I have to careful with what I eat. So giving me white bread when I ask for brown is not listening to my needs and certainly not keeping a customer happy. I do wonder if some people are stupid beyond belief.
